Alejandro Cotto
"Son of Suchitoto"
Alejandro Cotto is credited with
preserving Suchitoto's historical
past and placing it on the map as
one of El Salvador's most popular
tourist destinations. Mr. Cook is a well known cinematic director in Latin America, but these days you can often see him walking around his beloved Suchitoto. His house is open to the public as museum for film and music.

Suchitoto is El Salvador's showcase when it comes to charming towns. There is a lot to see and an overnight stay is highly recommended. Originally a large producer of Indigo, this colonial town now offers several great restaurants, shops, galleries, hotels, and activities on Lake Suchitlan.
There is a festival every weekend centered around the arts. Two special festivals are held during February and August.
Lake Suchitlan offers boat tours from the Centro Turistico Puerto San Juan. Tours range from $15-75 and will take you to the various islands and lakeside villages. The Cascada Los Tercios Falls are beautiful and guided tours can be arranged.
Santa Lucia church is situated off
the main square. It is a dizzying
white in the traditional Colonial style. The interior is beautiful and not to be missed.

Festivals-
Feria Artesanal "Asi es mi Tierra" is held every weekend. Enjoy live music, food vendors, and performance art. Just about anything is for sale from paintings, sculpture, hammocks, herbal medicine, and various arts & crafts.
The Festival of International Arts & Culture is held during the month of February and draws recognized international artists. Parades, live music, and artistic performances are part of the event.
Festival de Maiz (Corn Festival) is held during August. Special ceremonies and processions from pre-columbian times are held in the square and church. And of course, meals made from corn are offered by the food vendors.
Indigo-
At Hacienda Los Nacimientos you can watch how Indigo is made, once the primary commodity manufactured in El Salvador. The farm also produces organic cashews, bananas, and oranges. If you have never seen a cashew tree, then you are in for a surprise.
