The Spanish royal family will give El Salvador 6 million euros (7.9 million U.S. dollars) to fight poverty, Salvadoran President Elias Antonio Saca told local radio on Sunday.

According to news reports reaching here, the aid will be formally delivered on Monday, during the second official visit of the royal family to that Central American nation. The money will be used in the Solidarity Network program for rural areas.

During the two-day visit, the royals will sign a memorandum of understanding to support the country's poverty-reduction policies.  Saca will welcome the royal family at Comalpa International Airport, 40 km from San Salvador, the nation's capital, on Monday night. They will then attend a banquet of honor, with a delegation that includes Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos.

The royals will also formally open the Suchitoto City Hall, some 32 km from San Salvador, a project that has benefited from Spanish patronage.
