Royal Decameron is El Salvador's entry to the all-inclusive resort market. Opened in 2006, Decameron Salinitas Hotel is located on the northern beaches in the department of Sonsonate. The complex is quite large and each suite offers an ocean view. At the time of our visit, the resort was at full capacity with Canadians who were enjoying their escape from the frigid north. The majority of the guests we queried, all said they were having a wonderful time due mainly to the excellent service and friendliness of the staff. These were well-seasoned snow birds who are now planning on returning here next year.
There are 260 rooms, a convention center with a capacity for up to 500 people, 18-hole golf course 20 min. away, volleyball courts, ping pong, bicycles, kayaks, children's club, night club, internet, cable TV, gift shop, room safes, medical services, and several regional tours that leave daily.
The fresh and salt water pools are one of the best features of the resort. There are four pools throughout the grounds with one that runs almost the entire length of the property. You can literally swim your way from one end to the other, drink in hand. The salt water pool is very large, with a low rock wall seperating it from the ocean. The waves come crashing over during high tide. You can also kayak in the protected cove or out in the ocean.
The spa is located directly on the beach where you can pamper yourself with a variety of treatments under a palapas protected with soft netting. There is also a Tamascal which is a speical Mayan spa ritual. Volcanic rocks emit vapours within a small adobe dome. Certified shamans perform the ritual massage only three times a day.
